Updating FRITZ!OS of the FRITZ!Repeater

There are various ways to install the latest FRITZ!OS for your FRITZ!Repeater – either quickly and easily with one of the two 'online update' functions, or manually if an online update is not possible:

  • Online update using the FRITZ!Box user interface
  • Online update using the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater
  • Manual update using the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater

1 Using the FRITZ!Box user interface to update

  1. Click on 'Home Network' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Mesh' or 'Home Network Overview' in the 'Home Network' menu.
  3. If available, click on 'Search for updates' on the bottom right.
  4. If a FRITZ!OS update is found, click on 'Update' or 'Perform update' next to the respective FRITZ!Repeater.

2 Using the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater to update

  1. Click on 'System' in the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
  2. Click on 'Update' in the 'System' menu.
  3. Click on the 'FRITZ!OS Version' tab.
  4. Click on the 'Find New FRITZ!OS' button.
  5. Click on the 'Start Update' button.

3 Updating manually

If an online update is not possible, for example when the FRITZ!Repeater is not connected to the internet, update manually:

Downloading the FRITZ!OS file

Download the FRITZ!OS file first. If you cannot connect to the internet via your own FRITZ!Repeater, you can download the file on a smartphone with a mobile network connection or on a computer, for example at a friend's house or at the office:

  1. Call up download.avm.de/fritzwlan/ in your web browser.
  2. Switch to the folder for your repeater model. There are two different versions of the FRITZ!Repeater 600. If it says 'v2' on the type label on the underside of the device, switch to the folder 'fritzrepeater-600v2'.
  3. Switch to the subfolder 'deutschland' or 'other' and then to the folder 'fritz.os'.
  4. Download the file with the extension '.image' to the computer.

Deactivating the mobile network connection in Android

The following step is only necessary if you want to use an Android smartphone or tablet to perform the update. In Android, you can only access the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater without internet access if the mobile network connection is not active:

  1. Enable flight mode on the Android device to clear all connections.
  2. Only enable Wi-Fi on the Android device to establish the connection to the FRITZ!Repeater.

Installing the latest FRITZ!OS

  1. Click on 'System' in the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
  2. Click on 'Update' in the 'System' menu.
  3. Click on the 'FRITZ!OS file' tab.
  4. Click on the 'Browse...' or ' Select File' button.
  5. Select the update file you downloaded (image file).
  6. Click on the 'Start Update' button.

If you used an Android device to perform the update, you can deactivate airplane mode on the Android device again as soon as the FRITZ!OS update is complete.
