Saving and restoring FRITZ!Box phone books

The interface allows you to save the local FRITZ!Box phone books. Then you can always use the backup to restore your phone book, which means you are protected against data loss. Telephone books can also be copied from one FRITZ!Box to another, for example when switching to a different FRITZ!Box model.

1 Saving the phone book

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Phone Book' ('Telephone Book') in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Select a phone book, click on the 'Save' button, and save the phone book as an XML file on your computer.

    Important:If the browser blocks the file download, click on 'Keep' in Microsoft Edge and Chrome.

  4. Save all of the phone books stored in the FRITZ!Box, one after the other.

2 Restoring the phone book

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Phone Book' ('Telephone Book') in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. If you want to transfer the phone book you saved to a new phone book, click on the 'New Telephone Book' link. However, the options 'Quick-dial number' and 'Vanity code' are only available for the first phone book.
    • If you want to replace an existing phone book, click on the tab for that phone book. When you restore, all of the existing phone book entries are overwritten.
  4. Click on the 'Restore' button.
  5. Click on the 'Browse...' or 'Choose File' button and select the file (*.XML) with the phone book you saved.
  6. Click on the 'Restore Phone Book' ('Restore Telephone Book') button.
  7. Restore all of the phone books you want to use, one after the other.
