FRITZ!Box USB remote connection reports "Debug Assertion Failed"

When installing the FRITZ!Box remote connection software, the error message "Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library: Debug Assertion Failed!" is displayed. Installation cannot be completed.

Changing the computer name in the operating system

According to Microsoft's definition, computer names may only contain standard letters (A-Z, a-z), numerals (0-9), and hyphens (-). Therefore, rename the computer and do not use any special characters in the name:

Windows 10

  1. Click (Start) and then (Settings) in the Windows task bar.
  2. Click "System" in the "Settings" menu.
  3. Click "About" in the "System" menu and then "Rename PC".
    • The "Rename your PC" window opens.
  4. Enter a new name for the computer in the "Rename your PC" window and click "Next".

Windows 8

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut Windows key + X and select "System" from the context menu.
  2. In the section "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings", click the "Change settings" button.
    • The "System Properties" window opens.
  3. On the "Computer Name" tab, click the "Change..." button.
    • The "Computer Name/Domain Changes" window opens.
  4. Enter a new name for the computer in the field "Computer name:".

Windows 7

  1. Open the Windows start menu.
  2. Right-click "Computer" and select "Properties" from the context menu.
  3. In the section "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings", click the "Change settings" button.
    • The "System Properties" window opens.
  4. On the "Computer Name" tab, click the "Change..." button.
    • The "Computer Name/Domain Changes" window opens.
  5. Enter a new name for the computer in the field "Computer name:".
